Abstract Submission Guidelines

The Organizing Committee cordially invites researchers, clinicians, and scientists to submit abstracts for the International Complement Workshop (ICW) 2027.

All abstracts must be submitted online through the official abstract submission system. Presenting authors are required to register for ICW 2027 before submitting their abstracts.

1 Abstract Submission Requirements

  • All abstracts must be written in English.
  • Only original research will be considered for oral and poster presentations.
  • Multiple abstract submissions are permitted.
  • At least one author must register, attend the conference, and present the accepted research.
  • The presenting author must complete registration and payment before the abstract submission deadline.
  • Accepted abstracts will be presented in English, the official language of the conference.

2 Abstract Topics

Please select one primary topic from the following categories:

  1. Complement pathways, activation and regulation
  2. Complement structure and function
  3. Complement-related diseases
  4. Complement and infection, including COVID-19
  5. Preclinical models to study complement
  6. Complement assays and biomarkers
  7. Complement therapeutics
  8. Non-canonical functions of complement

3 Abstract Format and Word Limits

Title

  • Maximum 200 characters.

Authors and Affiliations

  • Include the first name, last name, email address, institution, city, and country of every author.
  • Enter authors in the order in which they should appear in the conference programme and author index.
  • Identify the presenting author using the designated checkbox.

Abstract Body

  • Maximum 350 words.
  • Include the following elements: Background, Methods, Results, and Conclusion.
  • These elements may appear under separate headings or as combined text.
  • Figures must not be included.

References

  • A maximum of two references may be included.
  • References must not exceed 50 words in total.
  • References may be printed in the conference programme.

4 Author Approval and Attendance

Before submitting an abstract, the submitting author must confirm that:

  • All authors have approved the abstract submission.
  • At least one author will attend ICW 2027 and present the accepted research.
  • The presenting author has completed the required conference registration and payment.

5 Abstract Review and Selection

Abstracts will be reviewed and scored by the International Complement Society (ICS) Council. The review process will be blinded to author identity.

The committee will select abstracts for oral presentation and may also use the results to assist with travel award selection.

Oral Presentations

A scientific committee will select speakers from the accepted abstract submissions. Acceptance for presentation will depend on the outcome of the review process.

Poster Presentations

At least one author of each accepted poster is expected to be present at the poster during the designated poster session.

6 Abstract Publication

Accepted abstracts are intended to be published in a special online issue of the European Journal of Immunology (EJI).

The abstract book is planned to be freely accessible online under the applicable publication terms. Authors submitting an abstract agree to its publication in the EJI Abstract Book Supplement.

Publication date: 1 September 2027

The special issue is planned to be free to read for 90 days, from 1 September to 1 December 2027, for authors choosing a standard licence, subject to the journal's final publication terms.

Articles in the virtual special issue may be published as they are accepted, with a virtual collection planned ahead of the conference.

7 Abstract Submission Confirmation

After submitting an abstract, you will receive an automated acknowledgement email confirming that your submission has been uploaded.

The system will notify you if mandatory fields are incomplete or if the permitted word or character limits have been exceeded.

Submissions with unanswered mandatory fields may be marked as incomplete. Please ensure that your submission is complete before the deadline.

You will receive an email notification confirming whether your submission has been received as complete or incomplete.

8 Registration and Refund Policy

The presenting author must register and pay for conference attendance before the abstract submission deadline.

If an abstract is not accepted for presentation at ICW 2027, the registration fee may be refunded upon written request, less an administrative fee of USD 110, subject to the conference's confirmed refund policy.

  • Check all author names, affiliations, and contact details carefully.
  • Ensure compliance with the word and character limits.
  • Obtain approval from all co-authors before submission.
  • Complete conference registration and payment within the stipulated timeline.
